Return to School - Phase 1
-Dear Families,
I am VERY excited to see the children starting on March 1!! We will follow the Zoom schedule we have started this week and 4th graders will come to school 1-3pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and 5th graders on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 -3pm. **It is important for students to arrive ON TIME (and not more than 5 minutes before or after pick up/drop off times)
What students need:
Backpack with:
-extra clothes and layers (jackets, hats, rain gear)
-sunscreen
-reusable water bottle
-yoga mat (if have and can leave at school)
-extra mask
- 4TH GRADERS ONLY - watercolor paints
Please see and/or print out the attachment "Back to School Checklist" for important information and links to protocols and review the COVID Handbook on the Lagunitas.org website.
One important requirement is to self-quarantine after returning from travel. Please see the attached Lagunitas Parent Community Health Pledge page with detailed requirements regarding travel and other health concerns. (This is just one section of the pledge page.)
"Self-quarantine my child/children for 10 days if they engage in a high-risk activity (e.g. gathering outside household or non-essential travel outside California) and have them tested for COVID 5 days after participating in a high-risk activity. Quarantine may be discontinued after 7 days if an exposed person tests negative on day 5 or later and remains asymptomatic." Examples of high-risk activities:
- Spending time within 6 feet of people you do not normally live with, while you or anyone around you was not wearing a face mask – especially if you were indoors.
- Traveling on planes, buses, trains, public transportation, or other shared vehicles, if face masks were not worn at all times by both you and the other people in the vehicle.
***Very IMPORTANT***
Parents must answer five questions on CrisisGo app each morning before drop-off. Students will not be allowed in classrooms without the daily health update from parents.
Here are details for registering to use the app:

Thank you to all families for your support and patience in this long waiting game for reopening to in-person learning. I think this Phase 1 in-person learning will be very beneficial for the student's social and mental well-being and I am excited to emphasize and foster this during this time. Academically the students are doing AMAZING and I feel they are where they need to be! What a resilient bunch we have!!! I am impressed every day with them and we will continue the strong academics in the morning zooms. The prospect for teacher vaccines happening very soon is hopeful, and we look forward to expanding into a more robust in-person learning schedule soon too! In the meantime - let's embrace this first Phase 1 and really focus on the students' well-being and community building!
If you have any questions, please reach out to me.
Thank you so much,
Alex

2/21/21
Hello everyone -
I hope everyone had a great break and families were able to enjoy some off-screen time and beauty in our wonderful surrounding nature! I sure did and it reinvigorated me!
I am very hopeful that we are going to start our in-person afternoon cohorts next week in March, so we are going to transition to our Phase 1 ZOOM schedule NOW this week to get ready and work out any kinks.
Students will be receiving all of the same academics but just earlier on zoom. It is not too much different but just now concentrated lessons in the morning time and START time is at 9:00 am instead of 9:30.
9:00 - 12:00 Zoom Class with Alex or Amy (with short breaks in between)
1:00 - 2:00 Independent Work (they will complete the independent work they were doing in the morning now in the afternoon)
2:30 - 3:00 Specialists on Zoom (Art, Spanish, Music)
Check out the plan sheet on the website or Google Classroom for exact times and I will be posting the times and links on the Stream for the students.
Most importantly - just have them on my Zoom at 9:00am on Monday fed, dressed, and with supplies ready!
**Week 23 Packets and VOLUME 2 of Homework and Remembering Math THIN Workbooks are READY FOR PICK-UP outside the classroom. Please be sure to get BOTH. (This is a DIFFERENT workbook than what was picked up a few weeks ago, so please get this one too :)

Dear Families,
I think we had a GREAT 2nd week of school! I am very impressed with how organized and well prepared the students have come to our Zoom lessons and their participation and engagement have been amazing. We have had some wonderful discussions over "Would you rather..." questions, possibilities of volcanoes in our backyards, facts about states, and more. The time on Zoom with Amy seems to be working really well for a space for them to complete their independent work, ask questions, and to stay on track. I feel really good about how it all is going for our distance learning. I hope it feels like things are going well on your end! :)
Packets are READY!
Please pick up Week 3 Take-home Packets outside the school office this weekend by Tuesday. (No school Monday - Labor Day!) Be sure to get a "Stapled Packet" and a "Flour Cup with a straw" for our science activity next week. Again, please do not allow them to do any of the work in the packet until we have done the lessons and please have them put the science materials in a safe place until we need them on Thursday.
Back to School Night Part 2 Slides
Thank you again for coming to Back to School Night. (Was that just last week?) I wanted to share with you the slides that I "normally" show at Back to School night that tells a little bit more about goals for the year, curriculum, assessments, etc... Here is a link to the slides:

Week 2 Packets are READY for Pick UP
Don't forget to pick up them up outside our physical Classroom at school by Sunday night!
HI! Welcome to Room 8!
I am very excited to be your child's teacher this year. I know it is not necessarily how we want to start the new year but I am determined to make it the best that it can be! I have many fun, engaging, challenging, and interesting lessons and work planned for this year.
This first week of school students are getting a feel for this online classroom, getting to know each other, and developing the expectations. I will also be completing some informal assessments because it is important in the Montessori philosophy to start where each child is and then follow the child.
I am available by email, text, and phone M - F from 8am - 4:00pm or by appointment.
[email protected]
Cell/Text 415-279-8059
Home 415-488-4486
And as we say at the end of every day,
Room 8 is Great!!
Respectfully yours,
Alex
